The Flemish fruit and vegetable cooperatives, better known as 'the auctions', and their producers have fulfilled their predefined commitments to sustainable development in recent years.
In 2012, the VBT (Flemish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Cooperatives), together with its member marketing cooperatives and affiliated producers, launched the collective sustainability project
and certification scheme "Responsibly Fresh". Both the VBT, the marketing cooperatives, and the producers each made specific commitments at that time. The sustainability challenges in the
cooperatively organized fruit and vegetable sector were collectively addressed. The collective nature of Responsibly Fresh is therefore unique.
After six years, the third sustainability report takes stock of the efforts made. Since its inception in 2012, participants have clearly made progress in terms of sustainable development. Positive developments are evident both economically, ecologically, and socially.
